Music and Performing Arts

Music Program

Highvale has an extensive Music Program offering a variety of opportunities for students to express themselves creatively.

The study of Music is an essential part of the College’s curriculum and is one of the major contributors to our reputation for developing the whole person.

Our vibrant music program includes both classroom and instrumental music tuition. The College has junior, intermediate and senior ensembles, including concert bands, string orchestras and our HSC Orchestra. Tuition is provided in Brass, Woodwind, Percussion and Strings.

The College supports this program through the services of a Performing Arts Centre and highly dedicated instrumental music teachers. Although we encourage students to purchase their own instruments, a number of instruments are available for hire through the school. Instrumental lessons take place during school hours while ensemble rehearsals are conducted after school during the week.

A large number of our students successfully complete Australian Music Examinations Board exams to further develop their musical skills. Students who study VCE Music Performance use the instrument they are learning in Instrumental Music in their academic classroom studies.

Performances are an integral part of our Performing Arts program. We hold performances to the College throughout the year both at the College and at external
venues. Students are encouraged to participate in the Northern Eastern Metropolitan Youth Concert.
